An update has been received from the Sulads who are currently at MVC for the SSD Division wide congress. There were more than 50 sulads who came from all over the Philippines. This number was verified during the separate sulads Sabbath School Program held in a separate site asrequested by the sulads in attendance, to be able to renew and strengthen their bond. It was estimated that their were more than eighty thousand attendees from all over the division's territory butcontinued to swell later that afternoon of the Sabbath due to the scheduled concert of the Heritage Singers USA. By the way, some of the sulads in Southern California have contributed to the airfare of the Heritage Singers USA on their travel to MVC.

The current President of the SSD Pastor Albert Gulfan is himself a sulad. He and his brother Edwin pioneered the Santo Domingo Mission School in the 70s, where the current Sulads High School is located.

The Sulads Philippines set up a booth at the congress and displayed varied souvenir items purchased either by cash or donation(more of this when the detailed report from them comes in, I will keep you posted) by the visitors. Per the report, the turn out of thevisitors at the booth was very impressive. On Thursday evening04/16/09, the South Philippine Union Conference through the Suladspresented a report on evangelism and the genesis of the sulads effortin the islands of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. It featured the interview ofex-pirate Sultan Al Bashir of La Island who spoke in Tausug dialect andwas translated to the English language by sulad Harlann Gaid (fluent inTausug dialect) who spent years of his ministry for the Lord in Suluand Tawi-Tawi islands. Al Bashir and two other companions from LaIsland traveled to MVC to grace the occasion. La Island who used to bethe lair of pirates has now a  sulad high school where even childrenfrom the neighboring islands come to attend classes. Three ofthe children from one of the nearby islands brave the waters thatseparate their island from La island, by swimming to and from theschool every school day. A picture presentation was done augmenting AlBashir's testimony on how the sulads brought education to La Island and the neighboring islands. There were misty eyes noticed during and after the presentation of the sulads.
